The daughter of sand

The daughter of sand, golden and free-flowing;
Her eyes were oasis, calm and mellowing.
Hot as the sun, and cool as the moon;
She travelled the lonely roads, singing the winds tune.

She had seen many nomads, and travelers passing by;
Since years she had been bidding them good-bye.
She never stuck, but touched too gently;
And blessed all those, who crossed her way, generously.

Her loneliness remained, marked with few footprints;
All the dreams she had were in faded tints.
Years passed by, and she waited patiently;
Oasis of her eyes, drenched the path intently.

It was the full moon night, as bright as it could be;
Far on the horizon, some light twinkling she could see.
Her deepest desire was once again so alive;
The beam suddenly seemed her reason to survive.

He was the one, the one with golden voice;
His gaze fixed on her, to her soul’s rejoice.
He whispered something, she couldn’t make;
But it was the moment, and a decision to take.

Let it go, or you too flow;
Is he the one, how would you know?
She followed her heart; she knew it couldn’t be wrong;
She had heard him hum her solitude’s song.

No questions asked, no promises made;
“I trust you love”; that’s all she said.
She followed him in silence of the lighted night;
Surrendering too willing to all his might.

He taught her to smile, he taught her to cry;
In his arms she discovered, how it felt to be shy.
Every word he said, on the sandy golden bed;
Was a crimson dream and desires were red.

The less he spoke, the more she heard;
Least did she know, he was a passing bird.
Then the day came; and he bid her good-bye;
Her heart ached bad; she wondered why!

She wished him to stop; she wanted him to wait;
And first time she realized the power of fate.
He gifted her water, as clear as her eyes;
“This is all I can give, now it’s your choice.”

“But promise me dear, you would never cry;
Someone will pass this way soon, and time will fly.
You won’t be lonely forever, love is not far.
You will find true mate, you are my shining star.”

She wondered what it all meant,
Was he really praising, or mellowing his regret!
She gathered her shattered self, and looked in his eyes,
Unable to believe, in them she saw her sunrise!

Holding his face in her hands,
She said “I belong here, to these sands,
I never break, nor cry, you may think but why!
You may feel I am fragile, but I can absorb all your lie.

I will never tell what you did,
I know now you want to get rid.
So, go on my traveler, go where you belong,
With me I have my sand and my song.

I am the daughter of this golden sand,
I am soft and porous, unlike your land.
All you could give was this water, you poured,
I forgive you for all the false dreams you showed.

No one will ever know, that you had passed through,
Or that something between us brew,
This water you dropped, shall never be seen,
Your image will ever be clean.

But there are few things that I have no control on,
Because this is the way I am born.
You may forget, but this water will remain,
Not visible above, but deep in my vein.

This is not to stop you I say,
If someone digs deep, they will know what underneath lay.
This love can’t be evaporated with any magic wand,
And she will love forever, the daughter of this sand.”
